Keeping in mind that my mother doesn't eat meat on Friday's during Lent. That's fine and dandy, I have plenty of fish dishes - but I was trying to keep from going to the store later in the week... So, here it is - semi French inspired deliciousness. Oh, and Sunday wasn't exactly planned, but I'll let you know what I made anyway.

Sunday - Delicious Beef Soft Tacos with Sweet Onion, Vine Ripened Tomato, Shredded Lettuce, and Shredded Colby Jack Cheese

Monday - Croque Monsieur with a Simple Baby Spinach and Tomato Salad

Tuesday - French Onion Soup (with two types of onion) and a Roasted Red Pear Salad with White Wine Vinegar and Honey Vinaigrette

Wednesday - Herb Roasted Chicken with Creamy Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes and Fresh Asparagus

Thursday - Homemade Roasted Chicken Noodle Soup with Ditalini Rigati Noodles and Peas

Friday - Roasted Eggplant Lasagna with Fresh Lasagna Noodles, Red Bell Pepper, Roma Tomatoes and Caramelized Onion

Saturday - Is the night people are less likely to be around for dinner. It will either be leftover city, homemade pizza night, or Beer Braised Sausage and Warm Potato Salad.

I've got to get back to my bubbling french onion soup since the onions have finally finished caramelizing and get the pears in the oven... Oh, the whole stick an onion in the freezer for a few minutes before slicing trick really does keep the onion tears to a minimum. I've sliced onions before where I had to leave the kitchen several times and from the look of me you'd have thought someone died! Damn those onions.

Hugs,
Cait

Digital Scrapbooking

Okay, so I'm not exactly much of a scrapbooker. I've got lots of scrapbook papers and other goodies, I used to scrapbook a bunch with my sister, but I haven't done it in awhile. I'm interested in a lot of different scrapbooking techniques for other applications like cards, journal type books, shadowbox art... I got a Bamboo Wacom Tablet awhile ago because I wanted to use it for digital photograph editing. I used one years and years ago in high school and enjoyed it more than using a mouse. The tablet came with some different software and a book for digital scrapbook.<img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=caisartliv-20&l=bil&camp=213689&creative=392969&o=1&a=B002QJASB4" style="border: medium none ! important; Some of these designers make some really amazing goodies which are surprisingly realistic - some are insanely adorable - others are just plain neat. To make it more fun, some of these designers give away freebie downloads of some of their goods.

If you're interested in checking any of these things out, here are some websites that I think are fun...

Tempus fugit - the fantastic freebie blog

Scrapbook - Bytes - filled with tutorials and downloads

Digital Scrap Cafe - an online store with a blog and lots of different artists offering goodies to download

All of these websites have inspired a bunch of ideas for new blog designs and badge/button goodness.

Hugs,
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; I've checked out the website a few times before, but never actually signed up. It's sort of like Facebook and Twitter in one food filled package. You can add posts from your blog, add photographs, make status updates, review restaurants, make foodie friends, find food blogs to follow... If you're all about good food too, you should defiantly check the website out.

You can find my Foodbuzz profile HERE.

In other food news... I made homemade barbecue chicken pizza on Saturday night. It was simple to do because I used leftover roast chicken - but it wouldn't have been a big deal to cook some chicken tenders for the pizza (I prefer chicken tenders to a whole chicken breast). It turned out pretty well, but next time I'll double bake the crust since I like it super crispy.

Tonight I'm making pasta that is loosely based on a sausage sandwich. It'll have Italian pork sausage, baby portobello mushrooms that I cook up special, caramelized onions, and baby spinach all wrapped up in a loving sauce based on a macaroni and cheese sauce, but with chunky tomato sauce added to it. It should end up delicious. I'm currently debating if I want to use long noodles or my favorite short cut pasta (cellentani). I'll have to take some pictures. (I haven't been super into food photography as of late since I'm reading how to do it properly.)

Hugs,
Cait

Blogging for Bliss by Tara Frey : A Book Review

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; It's a really great book for someone who is new to the world of crafty blogging. There's information about the major blogging platforms - Blogger, TypePad, and Wordpress along with ideas on how to pick a name for your blog, how to add creative sparks to the design, tips for posts that get read and commented on most, tips about taking photographs for your blog, among other things. My favorite part were the stories and interviews with different bloggers with popular creative blogs. Many of these bloggers were the writers of blogs I've already visited and thought were interesting and inspiring for many different reasons. Some of those blogs include Elsita, Daisy Cottage, Inspire Company, and Inside A Black Apple.

If you're interested in getting the book, Amazon has the best price. I tried to check it out at the local bookshops, but no one had it in stock.

Hugs,
Cait

Mirepoix Maven

So, after lots of thought I decided to make a new food blog. Cait's Plate is the name of some restaurant some place, so I keep getting e-mails about other's blogging about it. I decided on the name Mirepoix Maven and I'm working on getting it up and running. I've been trying to track down my missing Dreamweaver CS4 book because I really want to do an entirely custom design. Once I find the book I'll end up overhauling the design for this blog too. I'm also going to start a photography blog which will be about trying to get a foothold in the photography community in hopes of starting a photography business. I seriously think the book grew itself some legs and ran off.

Friends

Okay, my boyfriend has been finding all kinds of videos lately. His viewpoints weren't for the rich, but for anyone who wanted to live a happy life. The major point is that money is not the key to happiness. There's a major theme of needless shopping in the first video and how buying that new shiny watch might make you feel all warm and fuzzy now - but it's not a long term feeling... especially when the credit card bills come at the end of the month. Will owning 10 different watches really make you happy and feel fulfilled at the end of the day?

I agree with a lot of the ideas that are brought up, go figure.

I want to be my own boss, making a living off what I'm good at and what brings me joy.

I want to grow a large portion of my own food because it's fun and rewarding. When I had over 70 seedlings growing in my sun-room a few years back it was almost akin to raising children... Making sure they were all well fed and watered, putting them into bigger pots when they outgrew their seed trays, and then moving them into their final large pots so they could flourish. I won't lie - those cherry tomatoes were the best tomatoes I've ever had in my mouth... For all you parents out there - having your child GROW their own vegetables is a good way to inspire the actual EATING of healthy goodness. Plus, playing in dirt is fun.

I'd love to live in a small close-knit town where everyone knows everybody. That would be my take on living with friends. Friends are fun to talk to and do things with, but I think I'm a highly sensitive person (HSP) and living with a bunch of people would drive me insane. I am however a big fan of the not eating meals alone idea. It's somewhat depressing to roast a cornish game hen for one.

The program was broken up to three YouTube videos... Check them out if you're interested.

Hugs,
Cait

P.S. Check out the Homegrown website... It's a really beautiful, creative, and inspiring design.

Alicia Istanbul

I've been following the blog of a jewelry designer named Alicia Istanbul and found out that she's doing a jewelry giveaway via her blog. I got a book I needed along with one I wanted and didn't have to pay for the wanted book.

Come on, you'd smile too.

Hugs,
Cait

Books That Have Their Own Feet

The past few days I've been searching high and low for my Dreamweaver CS4 book. I got it with the idea of teaching myself how to build websites and recently got inspired to actually sit down with the book and go over the lessons. Well, the thing has got itself some feet and ran off on me. I've looked everywhere I thought it could be and still haven't found it. I've been looking for at least an hour a day for the last few days. Crazy, right? I have a nasty feeling I'm going to take the house apart, clean it up, still have no idea where it is... and then find it in some really random place - like in the garage.

I went to the local library for the first time in a long long time tonight to try and pick up a copy of the Dreamweaver book and see if they had anything else that would be helpful. Well, they didn't have the book for CS4, the CS3 one was already out and I didn't really see anything else that would be as useful. I checked out their digital photography section and found a book on lighting that seemed to have a bit of everything in it. There's a section for food photography, one for fashion and jewelry, one for around the house, one for cars, etc. I ended up checking it out with my brand new library card (the card I had since I was super little - maybe 4 - wasn't in the system anymore so I got to get a new shiny one). I'll have to let you know how the book is...

I started talking to a semi-local photographer on Model Mayhem about what she'd recommend for starting out studio lighting and she was really helpful... When I asked her about food photography and if she knew much about it or knew someone who did she recommened a website that lists TONS of photographers by area... I found several different photographers that do food photography on the American Society of Media Photographers website, but none were very local. One of the photographers I looked into learned from a man named Lou Manna - a major food photographer in NYC who wrote a book about food photography. I'm now on a search for his book, which according to his website is available at Borders - but it was too late after the library trip to check out tonight.

Hugs,
Cait

P.S. There's a pink line down the left side of my laptop screen... My boyfriend has informed me that it probably means that my screen is dying. Oh, joy. Well - it could be if a MacBook Pro lands in my lap as a replacement. Although the MacBook Air is pretty cool since it's oh so light.

Model Mayhem

My Model Mayhem portfolio was approved so you can check out my model photography if you're interested. There was a holiday shoot being held at a place called Fortress of the Arts with a bunch of holiday sets and models and he thought I'd enjoy going. Well, it snowed a great big snow and the shoot was moved to the Sunday after Christmas.

I'm finally getting around to loading the pictures onto an external hard drive (right this second) and it's taking forever because I shot in RAW and JPEG. I think I got some really nice shots of the models and can't wait to get at them in Photoshop. I know my boyfriend was tempted to pretend a few of them were his since he has them loaded on his computer... I'm going to make a profile on Model Mayhem after I pick some pictures I like best.

I'd really like to get some studio lights to play around with. I really enjoyed using a PocketWizard with the studio lights. Has anyone else played around with one of those? My boyfriend has been talking about me going into photography a lot lately. Not exactly about giving up jewelry but moving my artistic focus to something else I enjoy because he thinks it may be easier for me to "get into".

I do like photography, I'm just not sure if I'd enjoy the aspects of it that would be the "bread and butter" so to speak (standard portraits/family portraits, staged wedding photography). I did speak to a girl today about wedding photography and she was saying how it's moved from staged photographs to more candid shots that really capture the whole day. I wonder if I can turn food photography into my "bread and butter" and I wonder if that means I get to enjoy all the yummies... (Yes, I've thought about trying to become a restaurant reviewer/food photographer combo many times!)

Click goes the shutter...
Cait

Christmas Eve Dinner

This is a bit late, but at least I didn't forget what I made! I've always wanted to make a tradional standing rib roast, and finally got to make one. I kind of did a bit of a take on a "surf and turf" since I made shrimp along with the beef. There was a roast I saw the recipe for on Food Network that was wrapped in prosciutto and roasted with black mission figs. I couldn't find figs at the grocery store and figured a plain roast was going to be good as is.

Roast Beast with Rosemary and Thyme
(standing rib roast)

Old Bay Sweet Shrimp with Garlic Butter

Herb Roasted Baby Red Potatoes with Rosemary and Garlic

Sauteed Haricot Vert with Butter and Cracked Pepper
(thin french green beans)

Roasted Simple Root Vegetables (carrots and parsnips)

Dinner was good, though the meat wasn't cooked to my sister and mother's liking (they like it WELL DONE). We've been playing Little Big Planet - the characters are cute and I love the layered backgrounds and cardboard cut-outs. Later I'll be making roasted pork tenderloin among other things for dinner. Hopefully I'll get around to baking some more cookies as well.

I have plenty to share and tons of photographs and what I made for holiday meals, but right now I want to hang out and play with my sackperson.

Hope everyone has a great New Years Day...

Hugs,
Cait

Thanksgiving 2009 Menu

<span style="font-weight: bold; I actually started writing an update a few weeks ago and never finished it...

This is just a bit of a quickie update and I'll post a real one later.

People haven't been around for dinner on a regular basis the last few weeks, so I haven't been able to really plan meals. I did make a few great big family and friends kind of dinners though. I made an amazingly juicy falling apart pot roast with roasted root vegetables (carrots and parsnips) with creamy mashed potatoes one week. Then the next week I made roasted salmon with roasted rosemary and thyme baby red potatoes and sauteed green beans. And this past Thursday for my boyfriends birthday I made apple braised turkey thighs with roasted rosemary and thyme baby red potatoes (he loved them the week before) and sauteed asparagus along with a roasted bosc pear salad with goat cheese and homemade balsamic vinaigrette.

However, tonight I'm making pasta with sauteed chicken and a light cream parmesan sauce with sun-dried tomatoes and basil along with a simple spinach salad with sweet cherry tomatoes and sliced cucumber with homemade honey white wine vinaigrette.

I'm not sure what I'll be making for the rest of the week because I'll probably be eating alone several nights. When I eat alone I do like to cook myself something nice, but it's sort of depressing to plan out and since it's just me - if I decide I'm in the mood for something else - it's no biggie to change it up. My mother has been craving the shrimp and corn chowder I made a month or so ago - which is funny because I thought of that the other night too. I might end up making that sometime this week - but fresh corn season is pretty much done in my neck of the woods (I think anyway).

In arty kind of news... There's a lady who puts on some country style craft fairs for the holiday season. I'm not really sure my jewelry or fine art prints would exactly fit in with the kinds of things that are typically sold at these things - but verity would be a good thing in my mind. I was gonna call her to find out if I could get in on the action so to speak. I'm really not sure how people find out about small craft shows like this before they are around the corner...

Also, I made a bunch of pairs of "itty bitty" earrings. Which are sterling silver ear wires with semi-precious gemstone dangles. I also have a piece that combines sterling silver and paper that I've been toying with and I need to finish a few knitted fine silver pieces. I also need to photograph a bunch of stuff including a ton of flat work fine art matted prints, and a few prints that are extra large. I'm debating on how to send the extra large prints because I can cut mats for them, and a few of them already have mats cut... But sending them flat would be expensive compared to sending them rolled in a tube.

Oh, and the new Kurt Halsey calander for 2010 is for sale at Art Star in Philly - on their website and at the actual shop. It'll be on my Christmas list. I've gotten a Kurt Halsey calander every year for a few years now. I love them.

Hey, got any tips on finding local art/craft fairs?

Hugs,
Cait

Meal Planning - week two

So, I ended up planning meals again for the week and went to the grocery store last night and farmer's market today. I got all kinds of goodies - like a beautiful whole chicken and bosc pears and some HUGE sweet yellow onions. I also got some heirloom tomatoes and an avocado for sandwiches along with this oatmeal bread that I really love.

So... This week I've planned 4 meals again - mostly based around a roasted chicken. I'm thinking about maybe doing some homemade pizza on Saturday night if I'm around.

Tuesday (tonight) - Roasted salmon with a maple glaze served over garlicy grains and rice along with broccoli with olive oil and lemon zest.

Wednesday - Roasted chicken with fresh herbs (rosemary and thyme) and roasted bosc pears and shallots served with a spinach/arugula/radicchio, apple, and goat cheese salad and a honey balsamic vinaigrette.

Thursday - Open-faced roasted chicken, apple, and provolone sandwiches on oatmeal bread along with spinach, heirloom tomato, and cucumber salad with apricot/honey white wine vinaigrette.

Friday - Roasted chicken, fresh strawberry, goat cheese, and spinach salad with honey and shallot balsamic vinaigrette.

Yup, I really love making salad dressings from scratch. I mostly end up making a vinaigrette of some sort, but usually go with a balsamic vinaigrette that I love. When I was at the store I almost got a blackberry ginger balsamic vinegar for dressings and noticed an apple balsamic as well... Maybe next time. They both sounded really good.

Hugs,
Cait

Double Feature!

This week has been pretty good so far. I've been featured in two different blogs and the week is only starting! I've been spending a decent amount of time in the Etsy Forums and trying to post items regularly (recently it's been renewing an already posted item - I need to get more photographs of a bunch of things) but it's great to feel like the hard work has been "paying off". It hasn't resulted in a bunch of sales, but it has resulted in blog features, being in two treasuries, and tons of item and shop hearts (which I hope will translate into sales closer to Christmas time).

Anyway, the two blogs that featured my jewelry are pretty cool - so go and check them out!

The first is "Good Times as a Young Adult". Two of my sterling silver rings are featured in the jewelry post.

The second feature is on "Fallen Peach". The feature has a bunch of the writer's favorite items and the colors in the chosen items happen to match the color scheme of the blog! Fun, right? Oh, and it's the first time that the "Etsy Tuesday" was done on the blog, so I feel extra honored. : )
Hugs,
Cait

Planning and Ideas

So, I was "good" this morning and decided to actually PLAN meals for the week. Sometimes my meals are planned, but it's usually a last minute - oh I need to run to the store to get _______ to make whatever it is for dinner. I guess I got a little inspired and decided to plan meals for most of the week. I only planned until Wednesday figuring there would be leftovers.

So...

Sunday night - Shrimp and corn chowder served with corn bread along with a spinach/arugula/radicchio salad with apple, goat cheese, and a balsamic fig vinaigrette.

Monday night - Meatloaf served with baked macaroni and cheese and sauteed green beans.

Tuesday night - Pear, sharp cheddar, and ham panini on fresh baked country bread along with a baby romaine and roasted beet salad with a balsamic honey vinaigrette.

Wednesday night - Old school chicken cacciatore served over creamy polenta.

So far, there isn't anything left over - the shrimp and corn chowder went over super well and the pot was scraped clean!

On another note I've been toying with the idea of starting an Etsy Team. There isn't one for Bucks County - which includes a bunch of arty kinds of towns along with other surrounding counties that aren't far away. I don't want to have to go into the city to enjoy time with local Etsy goers. I read in the forums that a few people were also looking for a group in the area ... So I'm working on ideas for it - Like a group name and all of that. For right now I think the group would be blog and Flickr based - with blog voting for how often we should actually meet up. Once a month or every two months would be fun. We could get together to go to things like First Friday in New Hope or local galleries shows. Support group members in their gallery shows and maybe even sign up as a group for some local art/craft fairs.

Hugs,
Cait

Been Featured - Studio Haus Blog

I got an e-mail on Etsy today from StudioHaus saying that I was featured in their blog! From what I've read in the articles it's usually one person living on their own - or a wife/husband that quits their day job but they have a spouse that is working. This couple both quit their day jobs to work at home AND they have two kids! It's great that they can work from home and spend time with their kids. I think they'll end up with a super close knit family.

Both my parents worked when I was growing up - so I spent a lot of time before school with a babysitter, and after school with a babysitter or afterschool program (when I was older I was alone). So, I'm a bit jealous. I'd have loved to go on bike rides in the morning with my parents.

Go check out the artile on The Storque!

Hugs,
Cait

To the Edge of the Universe - Treasury

So, I've been on a bit of a treasury making kick lately. I made a few before and enjoyed finding items to feature and all that, but I never made this many in a row! Once you get the knack of getting a treasury spot (using Craftopolis's Treasury Clock) it's easy, unless they are at funny hours - staying up insanely late or setting an alarm. This new treasury is the "sister" treasury of the Earthbound treasury I made a few days ago. The Earthbound one was focused on what's here on our planet, this new treasury is focused on what's out THERE... Out in space, in other galaxies, at the edge of the known universe.

To the Edge of the Universe is filled with wonderful pieces, including photographs of actual astrological goodness! The fourth column is lighter than the others because it's the "alternates" column and is usually hidden.

Please go and check the treasury out before it's gone - they don't hang around forever (this one has till Sunday morning)! Leave comments and all that...

Here are the items featured in the screen shot of the treasury I got inspired and used the Poster Sketch tool to work on two treasuries based off each other... This one is the first of the pair - Earthbound. It's filled with all kinds of goodies themed around our little planet! There's a piece that I think represents microscopic organisms, to dinosaurs, to things we see today like roses - butterflies- and a zebra. It's all about EVOLVING.

Here's a list of the items from left to right... Again, the fourth column is the "hidden" alternatives in case one of the main items sells. It's been mostly jewelry thus far, but I have a bunch of limited editioned, one of a kind, and hand colored prints in my studio. They are all signed and dated - most are numbered - unless they aren't editioned prints and they are one of a kind. Some are varied prints - so they are editioned a little different from my tradtional ones.

I also added one of my sterling silver textured band rings. It's perfect for stacking or by itself. I have a bunch more of them to add with all kinds of different textures on them. They are all oxidized to bring out the textures.

Hugs,
Cait

Puppet Monster

My boyfriend has a 2 and a half year old son. He's a lot of fun to be around because I love to play. At the park recently he introduced me to his little "monsters" game. There's a big climbing-slide-bridge play set at the park and he likes to pretend that underneath the bridge is a tunnel that monsters live in! He runs back and forth making yelping scared sounds and seems like he's having a great time. I started playing along by going under the bridge when he was on top of it and making "Grrrr" sounds and reaching through the bridge's bars.

I got a fun idea to make the game even greater... A puppet. I think it would be fun to bring a puppet along to play monster's with and I decided making one would be neat. I like making things and this way I could make any kind of monster puppet I could think up. I was looking around online to try and find a pattern or some sort of how-to and came across a video link for step-by-step instructions on making a talking mouth hand puppet. The videos are on eHow and are by Paul Louis Muller. It seems pretty easy to make - especially for something that isn't made from a brown paper bag.

I'm hoping I can get my sewing machine to work. The last time I tried to use it (years ago) the sewing machine freaked out and was doing horrible stuff like sucking the fabric into itself. My mom was trying to fix it claiming I was doing something wrong - but it did it to her too. The machine is pretty old and never had any work done on it... Sewing the puppet by hand will be a pain in the butt, but at least it isn't a ton of sewing. Since the machine broke, I sewed a whole tiger Halloween costume for myself by hand!

Tools & Supplies: How to Make a Puppet -- powered by eHow.com

I'm really hoping to get this little project done. I never saw a writing themed treasury list before, and I happen to have two pairs of etched pen nib earrings in my store right now. My boyfriend bought a great sterling silver cast heart necklace by Thomas Mann for me around Christmas - which I used to wear all the time. Funny thing was that we seemed to get into little "bumps" in our relationship whenever I was wearing it. I'm not sure if he noticed how I haven't been wearing it lately, but I do keep it in a glass box that belonged to my grandmother before she passed away. It means the world to me and I really wish I could wear it all the time without feeling like an idiot.

I've been obsessed with rough cut diamonds since I learned who Todd Reed is and really wanting a piece of jewelry that had them in it. I've also been ogling some of the recent pieces that Christine Mighion (aka Bloom Studios) has created and listed in her Etsy shop when I came across this rough cut black diamond necklace. I knew it would end up on my "What I want for Christmas" wishlist.

Hugs,
Cait

Busy Bee

I've been a bit bee like lately. Maybe like those busy little bees - I'm preparing for the upcoming cold weather. I guess in a way I am - holiday season means shopping... Shopping hopefully means my jewelry, fine art cards, and fine art prints find loving homes! Oh, how they do not like living in boxes and baggies and cellophane sleeves.

I've been working rather hard recently trying to make Etsy really work for me. After reading a ton of the "Quit Your Day Job" interviews with artists who are already making Etsy work for them I got a little inspired - maybe even a bit jealous. I want to be able to do what I love from the comfort of my own home too! I want to be able to drink coffee in my pajamas while I answer e-mails and post in the forums before starting my day creating.

One thing everyone has in common in the interviews is that they list new items a few times a day - everyday. I've been listing on a semi-regular basis and I really have seen an increase in items views. I've also been spending times in the forums, started posting photographs in my Flickr photostream, updated links in my deviantART... According to Google Analytics my Etsy store has a 1,460% increase in views so far this month... None of this hard work has lead to any sales so far, but I have gotten item and shop hearts. I'm hoping for some sales soon!

Hugs -
Cait

Silver Lining - Etsy Treasury

I'm moving this post from a blog I used to have... I was excited to write it and it was fun and colorful - plus it's storming right now. It was storming when I posted it in the first place...

Originally written September 30, 2008

Saturday evening I played a fun waiting game... Wait, wait, wait, plan... All in order to get an Etsy Treasury spot. The game paid off and I got a spot. Goodie! I'm very proud of this treasury... It's been raining a lot lately so I decided to do a whole "silver lining" theme. Finding the silver lining in crappy weather means - silver jewelry! So to make the treasury more interesting than just silver jewelry pieces I chose pieces based on the background colors. I set it up to be a spectrum of sorts... I dig it, so should you. It's up until Tuesday - late afternoon. Please check it out and click away. The artist's deserve their work looked at in full views. Plus, the pieces are inspiring to anyone who creates!

Wow, the storm just picked up and right now I'm sitting here hoping the power doesn't go out! Doing laundry won't be much fun without electricity.

Hugs-
Caitlin

Wacom Tablet

So, I've been playing with my tablet... I've been using it instead of a mouse to navigate normal stuff like checking e-mail and browsing websites so I could get used to it... I've edited a few pictures and designed a logo using it. Then I tried actually writing with it. What fun that is! I've always wanted to be able to write on my photographs, but a mouse and the touch pad on my laptop didn't really cut it. Writing with the pen tablet is insanely fun. It truly is just like writing with a pen.

I ended up getting the Craft Version of the Bamboo Fun tablet. The Bamboo Craft came with the software that comes with the Bamboo Fun (Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 Win/6.0 Mac, Corel Painter Essentials 4.0, and Nik Color Efex Pro 3.0 WE) but it also included some other things for digital scrapbooking (a DVD with how-to videos, Scrappin with a Tablet book, embellishment CD, and a few other goodies). When I found out about digital scrapbooking on the Wacom website, I thought it was pretty cool. Plus it would make for some neat banners and headers for websites.

I haven't gotten around to checking out the how-to videos or the embellishments yet, but the previews for them seem like they'll be fun to work with. The writer of the book is a digital scrapbooking artist named Amanda Dykan. The how-to videos are done by another artist named Jessica Sprague. I love the header on Jessica's page. Their designs are pretty inspiring and can be translated into inspiration for actual artwork, design, and web design besides just inspiring digital scrapbooking.

xoxo
- Cait

Windows 7 F.A.Q. Logo

The other day I got a Wacom Tablet... It was part of my birthday present from my Mom. I picked the craft version because of the "extras" you got in the bundle. I'd have more to play with then, plus digital scrapbooking looks like fun! I've been messing around with it a bit tonight. It's actually pretty fun. The tablet is kind of strange to use vs. a touch pad (what I've always used on my laptop) or a mouse. I'm starting to get used to it and it's a lot of fun thus far. I can't wait to get more use out of it!

So, my manfriend started Windows 7 F.A.Q.com and kept asking if I'd make him a logo of sorts for it. After asking me a bunch of times over the last few days I actually got to work. It's been awhile since I really got into Photoshop - as in using gradients and such. For years I've mainly been using it to edit photographs and maybe adding a bit of text to things. It was a bit of a pain in the butt figuring out where everything is. Plus, I'm using Photoshop CS4 now vs. Photoshop 7.

This is the first thing I came up with... Yes, I still make wishes when I blow out birthday cake candles - which I got to do a few hours ago. I had a great birthday. Last year's birthday was insanely uneventful. By that, I mean that I didn't go out and I was actually home by myself the whole time. I was taken out to lunch today and took a bunch of photographs and my mom took me out to dinner. Tomorrow (Saturday), I'll be going to dinner at a place I've only been to once before with my dad last year. The food was great, so I'm pretty excited.

Right this second I'm insanely tired though. Being outside in the sun for more than a few minutes starts to wear on me. Oh, and I think I got a little sun burned. I guess that's the curse of being fair skinned.

xoxo
- Cait

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is my birthday... I'll be turning 24 at 7:05 in the morning, which my mother reminded me of tonight. I don't have any big birthday plans this year, I really wish I did though. I haven't had a birthday party since I was 10 years old or something like that. I'll be going to dinner with my mom and we'll have cake and do the present opening kind of thing.

I did get a present earlier today. This afternoon UPS dropped off a box from Amazon.com - which turned out to be from my friend Patty. It was really nice of her to send me something since she's up in New York and can't just hang out with me whenever she feels like it. I know if she was around she would have baked me come cupcakes or a birthday cake and we would have went to get drinks in New Hope or something like that.

I spent most of the afternoon today visiting old teachers of mine. I was dropping off some jewelry pieces for the student show that's coming up in May. I also picked out one of my printmaking teacher's prints as a trade for fixing two pairs of earrings for her. I need to either find time tomorrow or over the weekend to cut mats for 3 prints from my zodiac constellation series. I should also photograph the pieces and scan them.

Right now, I need to go and paint my nails!

xoxo
- Cait

Photoshop CS4

I've been meaning to make a header for this blog for awhile now... I just never got around to it, and with good reason! I just spent several hours - at least 4 - finding and editing photographs to use and then building a header that I actually liked. Now, my brain is tired. I decided that I really need to get a Wacom tablet for long sessions of photo editing and Photoshop work. I usually just use the touch pad on my laptop, but that's getting insanely ridiculous to do - especially when you have over 1,500 new photographs to go through!

Speaking of those 1,500 photographs - that's only a small collection of all the photographs I have in folders waiting to be looked at. I need to spend a few days checking them all out... Delete some that I don't like, edit some that I love, save some for later editing. The task of doing that seems so daunting that I keep putting it off. I have photographs from different places around Bucks County, Pennsylvania, food photographs, photographs of myself, and photographs of someone I happen to love.

I need to get to the photo editing pronto, because I have a billion more photographs to take! I really need to stop filling compact flash cards instead of actually working with the pictures. It just happens to be quicker to save the photograph loading till later. It would also be fun to find out how many photographs I've actually taken since getting my digital SLR - It's a Canon 40D and I love it.

Would someone please dig me out of this avalanche of digital photographs?

xoxo
- Cait
